Lake Superior Circle Tour / Day 6

In the morning we drove through a few small towns and made a quick stop at Aguasabon Falls before we began our long stretch of driving.

There was a lot of driving to do across the eastern side of the Lake and very few towns.  A large part of the area is in the Pukaskwa Canadian National Park, which would be an amazing stop, but that will have to wait for another trip.  As we were cruisin’ along, not really paying attention, all of a sudden Tim was pointing his finger at the trees on the side of the road.  There he was, a moose with giant antlers!  He was poised so perfectly in a small pool of water next to the road, back lit and framed by dark green trees.  He looked fake!  We couldn’t believe it!  We thought we’d never see a moose!  Tim pulled over, slammed on his brakes and did a u-turn, while I got my camera ready.  Unfortunately, when we got back to the spot, the moose was already running back into the thick of the trees.  Dangit!  If only you could see the photo I took with my brain!  Anyway, we drove onto Wawa and scoped out the old town.  Wawa is a Native American name for Goose, hence all of the geese sculptures in town.

We stopped at the famous, Young’s General Store.  I have an obsession for vintage candy package designs!

Then it was back to the road, we had a lot of miles to make.  Then!  Tim was pointing again!  This time it was a black bear on the other side of the road.  He did a quick U-turn, I got my camera ready and this time the bear hung around to check us out!  Eeek!  These were taken from inside of our car, don’t worry!

I can still see you standing behind that tiny tree Mr. Bear!

Soon after our bear sighting, Tim was pointing again!  This time it was another moose.  He started to run away, but I still got a few shots as we drove by.

We were very excited by our animal sightings!  I wish my photos were better, but I wasn’t about to approach either of these subjects.

Before finding a place to rest we stopped at Katherine’s Cove, which is known for it’s funky rock formations.

For the night, we came across some cute little cabins along the water at Twilight Resort.

More rocks to collect!  I couldn’t stop!

To end the evening, there was a beautiful sunset and Tim made a fire.

Then we decided to get really creative!  Tim took his fire stick and spelled out all of the words we could think of that were related to “fire”.  I know what you are thinking, “Wow, these guys are incredible artists!”
