2024 Highlights
My biggest photo highlight from 2024 was winning 2nd place for a photo from my series, “The Sick Girl and The Robot”, in the photography category at the Minnesota State Fair Fine Art show! The photo also sold! The series portrays a Stepford type mother who has fallen in love with the robot she had created to replace her real sick daughter. The real daughter eventually tries to smother the robot girl with a pillow. I was inspired by the book “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro.

This first image was at The Gamut Gallery in Minneapolis and sold as well!
I won the Director’s Choice Award for the show “In Between Moments” at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis for a photo from my series,”The Trying Times of Tilda Tadmore”.
The Full Series
Death Valley National Park
We took an amazing trip to Death Valley National Park and saw a lake that hadn’t been there in 10,000 years, we actually got cold, and I fell in love with a cat named Jackpot at The Longstreet Inn and Casino; the best casino I’ve ever been too! I highly recommend The Longstreet Inn and Casino! It’s clean, it doesn’t smell like smoke, it’s just outside Death Valley, it’s inexpensive, it has a decent restaurant, there’s a pond and ducks out back and of course there’s the cat.
We stayed in Beatty, Nevada, just outside of Death Valley for two nights.
We did not stay at the Stagecoach Inn and Casino thank goodness! It smelled of smoke and had some sketchy looking folks. But it made for some good photos.
We did stay at the Death Valley Inn which was a basic hotel but nice and cozy.
Lake Manly (the lake that has not been in 10,000 years)
I wish we hadn’t stayed at The Amargosa Hotel. It’s a historical hotel so I was really excited to stay there, but I was disappointed on so many levels! The room was dingy and small (which I can usually live with) but the walls were so thin that you could hear everything in the adjoining room and even see the light coming through at the bottom of the wall. There was a horrendous smell in the hotel and it was so bad that I had to cover my mouth with my hand. The receptionist tried to tell me that it was because it was a historical hotel, but I felt like it was a health hazard. Oh! It was also supposed to be haunted and I experienced nothing!
